Artist: Dekad Title: Monophonic Format: Album Label: Boredom Product Genre: Electropop, Synthpop Release date: May 2, 2011 |
The French-based act Dekad was formed already back in 2000 as a 4-person band with similar influences. The debut album “Sin_Lab” was released in 2003, and this time as a duo of original member JB together with U-0176 from Celluloide. After the second studio album “Confidential Tears” in 2007, the band went into hiatus due to no time for the project.
Now, 4 years after the second album, JB return with Dekad and this time as a solo project. Even if it has been 4 very quiet years, a lot of things have happened beneath the surface, as JB has continued to write songs on his own and the result of that can be whitness on the new studio album “Monophonic”.
“Monophonic” is a beautifully composed synthpop album with past influences that brings you back in time but with a strong modern feel. Some parts of the album take you back to the early 90′s and bands such as Celebrate The Nun – the early synthpop project of a certain H.P. Baxxter ala Scooter – and earlier Neuroactive comes up in my mind. I think the sound is fresh and very catchy with lots of strong melodies and the chemistry of all tracks works very well together. Not to mention the very strong voice of JB. Great combination!
Even the duet version together with Foretaste’s female singer on “So Sorry” is a beautifully composed track that reveal a deep emotional feeling but yet very danceable with strong lyrics. With “Monophonic”, Dekad deliver a very powerful and strong album that will keep you entertained for a long time.
