Devision - Popgefahr

9/10

Artist: De/Vision
Title: Popgefahr
Format: CD
Label: Popgefahr Records

Almost three years after the release of their latest album “Noob”, De/Vision returns with a new album and during this time in between the releases, the band has established their own record label Popgefahr Records. Over the years De/Vision has develoved and refined their sound to what it is today. Ten albums and 22 singles later, “Popgefahr” is the result. The album features 10 new tracks including the first single “Rage/Time To Be Alive”.

The first track “mANDROIDS” shows off a great harmony with electrified soundscapes and a much more electronic side from what I’ve experienced over the years. “Rage” is the first single and with its rough sound and quite different approach the track is already one of the favorites. Great rhythms and with great vocals, singer Steffen shows how much of a talented singer he is. The following “What’s Love All About” is a pure electro pop hymn with an incredible melodic feeling and refreshing atmosphere before we get to the second track from the first single. “Time To Be Alive” is presented in an album version, just like “Rage”, and this song became something of a highlight already when I heard the first samples released around christmas. The track is just outstanding and has it all, a great structure and it’s just the perfect electro pop track with its seductive chorus that shows off a more danceable style with a distinct bassline while the parts in between is a bit moody and quieter.

With a brighter sound structure, the following “Plastic Heart” combines great synthpop tunes with catchy melodies and danceable rhythms. Next up is the moody “Be A Light To Yourself”, followed by “Ready To Die” which shows off a more ‘rockier’ feeling and the presence of influences from Depeche Mode is hard to come by. “Twisted Story” must be the most beautiful song on the album. Very harmonic with emotional lyrics and infectious soundscapes that will for sure please every musiclover out there.

After listening on the album a couple of times, you’ll notice that the band has worked on every inch and fine tuned every detail to create “Popgefahr”. The conclusion is an album with a fresh, modern and almost timeless sound of amazing electro pop tunes and great vocals that will spellbound the listeners.
