Artist: Erotic Elk Title: Solitary Format: Album Label: Major Records Genre: Synthpop Release date: October 14, 2011 |
At the very first second, tracks like “Monoton” and “Another Angel” witness on something fantastic. This is synthpop anno 2011 and something completely mind-blowing. With infectious choruses that penetrates your brain like the worst virus, you’re addicted before you even know it.
Similarities with Apoptygma Berzerk is hard to miss and the vocals of Tomas Gustafsson even sound like Mr. Groth sometimes. Nothing bad with that, not at all. It only reveal that it deliver a great singing performance. The voice and music match perfectly together. The emotional glimpse is there, as well as a stellar production work, something that hints that these guys really know what they are doing. This is the bands second album and I must say this is so much better then it’s predecessor. The band have grown and evolved into being a band counting on.
The very cheesy band name Erotic Elk (probably something they have heard a lot) kinda give you an impression of something not so serious. But don’t let you be decieved by the thought. The music is as serious at it can be and deliver melodic and catchy synthpop at its best. “Solitary” is putting you up with both catchy uptempo dance tracks but even some slower tracks, like the duet together with Miss FD in “Not A Tragedy”.
“Solitary” is one of the strongest synthpop albums this year and should not be missed. I’m really excited to follow the future of this band.
