The Norwegian act Essence Of Mind is back with a new album entitled “Try And Fail” which features 10 new tracks, and the music is in the same vein as the later Apoptygma Berzerk with alot of rock & roll, catchy melodies and strong synthesizers.

The album starts with the title track “Try And Fail” and is quite a good energetic track offering great vocals to a great melody. The energy continues with the very rocky piece “Out Of Sight”. Yet another catchy song with distinct beats and it offers a more dominant synth structure in the background. After the track “Break It” something really starts to happen. With the song “Apart Of The Past” the tempo is brought down drastically, the music and structure is different compared to the first 4 tracks which I think sounded pretty much the same. The song is very melancholic with an atmospheric feeling rushing trough my body and the synthscapes is amazing. Followed is the song “Watch Out”, which also was the title on the EP released earlier this spring. For you who haven’t heard it before, it’s also a track different from the earlier tracks on this album and one of the highlights. But be sure not to miss “Fooled” and “Wicked Smile”, two songs showing an upfront dynamic feeling with modern electronics and a more synthpop aproach.

The music on “Try And Fail” is full of energy from start to finish with great vocals, catchy melodies and loud guitar riffs, though as I said, I think the sound is changing after the 4 first tracks and offers more variation on both song and vocal structure. Fans of new Apoptygma Berzerk or even Zeromancer and Project Pitchfork should definately check this out.

And as always with the album released on Alfa Matrix, they also comes as a 2CD set with a second disc featuring remixes, unreleased tracks and different versions.
