Front Line Assembly - Improvised Electronic Device

7/10

Artist: Front Line Assembly
Title: Improvised Electronic Device
Format: CD
Label: Dependent Records
Genre: Electronic, Industrial
Release date: June 25, 2010

Earlier the band delivered the single “Shifting Through The Lens”, as an appetizer for whats to come. “Improvised Electronic Device” is the new album from Canadian band Front Line Assembly and we are served with 10 new tracks.

“I.E.D.” is the opener and also the title track for the album and its an heavy track with a lot of distorted guitars and rhythms. Two of the tracks from the single are also included on the album, “Shifting Through The Lens” and “Angriff”. Though “Shifting Through The Lens” is two minutes shorter then the extended single version. Still two of the best tracks since the single but the album includes a true masterpiece in “Afterlife”. It’s a mellow track with a very beautiful and great melodic structure to create that emotional feeling. The album ends with the instrumental track “Downfall”. It’s also got this mellow settings and offers a great atmopshere and falls into the same category as the single track “Endless Void” with its calm electronic soundscapes and ambient elements.

A lot of rhythms are presented mixed with heavy distorted guitars and cool electronic sounds. “Improvised Electronic Device”, is a good album, but I don’t get the same feeling that I got with the single. It’s not bad but it’s not great either. Some of the tracks stands out more then the other.
