Head-Less return with a new album. After a self-released EP in 2009, the band are back with their first studio album in four years. Finding a new home at German label Danse Macabre, the band release their third studio album since the debut album in 2002.
After a very cool intro, the album kicks off with “Punish Your Head”. A Track with a very catchy and club-friendly approach. Something the tracks “We Stand In Hope” and “You” is too, while “Forgiving” being one hell of melancholic track. The very groovy and amazing “The Deep Insight” is probably the best track on the album with its great beat and lead synths throughout the song.
But the album is so much more. With beautiful instrumental parts like the short “Dialoque” or the beginning of the following “Als Ich Fortging”, which actually is a cover version of a classic rock band named Karussel. This track however, goes in the style of Gothic with its classic instruments and dark tone in the vocals. The piano play is just amazing.
The only downside is probably the track “Down Memory Lane”. Not only because its lenght but for it being somehow misplaced with the rest. This track probably would have fitted better if it were shortened and work like an intro or something to a track. Otherwise, I feel the band have managed to create a pretty solid tracklist and keeping it to the classic 10-track output.
This proves to be a very interesting album with a vast diversity in tempo, and lots of melodies, but also in style with elements from Synthpop, Futurepop, Trance, Gothic and EBM. This band have really improved a lot since I heard them way back with “Ship Of Agony” of course, being the first impression and it is still a solid track though.
