I first got my eyes on Chris Corner and his alternative electronic project IAMX in 2006 with the album “The Alternative”. Several years have passed and yet another record have been released. Now it’s 2011 and he is back with the new album “Volatile Times”, which is said by Chris himself to be the personal breakthrough.
This is definately an album that needs time. The more I’ve listened to it, it grows. Chris’ voice is incredible and I feel that it’s hard not to like it. Musically, this is an album that continues where its predecessor left off and Chris Corner once again deliver an album with his own sound. “Volatile Times” is an emotional album with amazingly crafted ballads together with strong melodies and great rhythms and catchy tunes.
The very sensual feeling that IAMX always seem to offer is still there. With influences to the opera genre and even some characteristic style of a cabaret like the track “Bernadette” together with twisted electronic soundscapes and hinting orchestral instruments, it pretty clear reveal the wide spectra Chris really has in his process of creating music.
