US electropop duo Iris are back with a new single. “Closer To Real” is the appetizer for the new studio album “Blacklight” to be out in early September. The single comes with four tracks in total, two versions of the title track, including a mix by Stromkern, and two versions of the b-side “Panic Rev”.
At first I was a little disappointed, this was not what I expected. Although, the track have grown the more I’ve listened to it and have turned out to be a really strong track. With clever and very powerful soundscapes and a fantastic rhythm together with the amazing voice of Reagan Jones a classic Iris song is a fact and really represent the sound of Iris.
The b-side “Panic Rev” is a very clubby track with lots of cool electronic sequences and the melodic approach is clearly there with its heavy rhythms. “Closer To Real” draws much attention to the electronic scene with its ‘heavier’ sound, especially with the b-side and parts away from the pop/rock influenced sound they had on both “Wrath” – an amazing album though – and on some of the tracks on “Hydra”. I like this new sound and hopefully we’ll get more of this on the new album “Blacklight”.
