This album is about the Danish female mass-murderer Dagmar Overbye, who was convicted of murdering at least 25 children between 1913 and 1925.

I’ve begun to like the music from Leaether Strip more and more over the past years and I must say that I think Claus Larsen is an excellent song writer and creator. With “Aengelmaker” he delivers a 22-track double cd with an additional third bonus disc on a limited edition box set. In total it’s almost 4 hours of electronic music.

“Aengelmaker” is much pain and anger, but also sometimes a bit scary ;) and I must say – even if I haven’t heard every cd with Leaether Strip – that I think this is Claus Larsens best work to date. Powerful beats of dark EBM and very satisfying electronic tunes. The song ‘Lili Marlene’ – the german cult song – is the first song with a lowered BPM compared to the earlier ones and this is track number seven. The song features german lyrics, something that isn’t very common with Leaether Strip. The synths and soundscapes – which has become somekind of a trademark for Claus – in songs like White Flag and Where You’re Inside is amazing and two of my favorites together with Don’t You Dare Die On Me and So Hard They Fall. Not to mention the track Deliver Me, which I think is a beautiful song with great lyrics and stunning sound structure.

“Aengelmaker” also features two cover version of two Depeche Mode songs – Black Celebration and Blasphemous Rumours – they are both great versions and also included on the Alfa Matrix tribute compilation for Depeche Mode.

The third cd features constellations with several other artists from the scene, such as Unter Null and Supreme Court, but also from the swedish/US newcomers Titans together with a couple of different versions and mixes.

“Aengelmaker” is a great album with many great tracks and I recommend to get it.
