Lyronian - Hope And Veneration

6/10

Artist: Lyronian
Title: Hope And Veneration
Format: EP
Label: Deep Symmetry
Genre: Electronic
Release date: July 9, 2010

Lyronian struck like a lightning last year with the debut album “Side Scan”, released in September on Deep Symmetry. This summer Alex returns with the EP “Hope And Veneration” featuring some new songs and remixes from Haujobb, The Eternal Afflict and !distain aswell as the video “The Place Above” taken from the album.

It starts out with “Close To You” and this song sounds exactly like I hoped for. A distinct beat with amazing melody to this slow song together with the outstanding voice of Alex makes it just so great. It’s melancholic and emotional making it one of his strongest tracks to date. The following track “Längst Vergangenheit” feels very stange from what I expected. It’s not because the lyrics is in German, well it is a decent track but doesn’t quite reach up to the high standard I feel his earlier songs have. It is the same for the next track, “Dogma Dominate”, but on this one it is strange on a positive note. Great rhythms and really cool melodic structure.

This EP feels very experimental compared with the album, so if you expected more of the “Side Scan” touch you will get disappointed. “Close To You” is without a doubt the best track on the EP. It would be really interesting to see what next release will bring.
