Nitzer Ebb returns in 2010 with their new album “Industrial Complex”, the first album with all new material since 1995 and I think many saw this coming after the return to the live stage a couple of years ago and since then playing alot of new shows. “Industrial Complex” features 12 new tracks including guest performance by Martin L. Gore of Depeche Mode.
What I first noticed when I listened through the album is that the music has more melodic lyrics to it then before. Take the first track “Promises”. It’s a very catchy song but still with the powerful beats and recognizable rhythm but yet with an updated sound structure to the more modern type blended with a pop rock feel to it.
Though I’ve never been a big fan of Nitzer Ebb, “Industrial Complex” is a decent album with a lot of energy with the sounds that they are known for and with striking vocals from Douglas McCarthy. Notable is that the lyrics seems more mature, the music is more varied then before and its for sure that Nitzer Ebb has left the past behind. Recommended tracks: “Payroll”, “Down On Your Knees” or “Never Known”.
This is old-school EBM anno 2010.
Note:
The version I have reviewed is the Belgian Edition only available from Alfa Matrix in selected countries including a different set of bonus tracks, therefor different cover and release date.
