The Swedish synthpop band Pop Electronique are back. This trio was formed in 2006 and released the EP “Hit The Dancefloor” in 2008. After that its been rather quiet from the band who apparently worked hard on getting the debut album ready.
A part of the Swedish label Dream Box Records, Pop Electronique release the album “Retro”, a 10-track album with analogue synthesizers being a big part of the sound together with strong basslines and catchy rhythms. The female vocals are mainly done with the effects from vocoders, but you can expect some clean singing together with additional male backing vocals. A nice combination.
The opener “Dance To (Pop Electronique)” is kinda the anthem for the band and is a very catchy dance track with its addictive chorus. The sound isn’t that groundbreaking. Maybe that’s the point regarding the title, which pretty good reflects the sound structure on all tracks. Big influences from the 80′s with lots of elements from that time, but in a modern touch. It sure brings the good old discotheque feeling back to life.
Even if this is not any newly creating or something unique, and probably something that would have been for about 10-15 years ago, it is still a pretty good album.
