On “Alfa Matrix Re:covered – A Tribute To Depeche Mode” the Belgian label Alfa-Matrix have united their own artists to cover the best songs from one of the electronics biggest act.

I have never really liked tribute compilations – or any compilations in general. There are a few compilations I really like. However, I would be pissed if I were a big artist or in a famous band I got my music recovered on a Tribute Compilation, since I think more or less every band destroys the good in the music and creates poor versions, and this compilation is not an exception. There are only a few good covers on this one. I am not a Depeche Mode fan but there is nothing that could compare to the original versions, and if I were a Depeche Mode fan I would definately not get this one.

This Tribute compilation features some great bands though, such as Komor Kommando, Leaether Strip, newcomers Mesmer’s Eyes, Seize to name a few. My favorite on this compilation is the Mesmer’s Eyes interpretation of Stripped, with its blend of distorted vocals and great sound. I’m really looking forward to their debut album. Also worth to mention is the version from Technoir with Lie To Me, Kant Kino with Question Of Time and Komor Kommando with Personal Jesus together with the two versions from Leaether Strip, Black Celebration and Blasphemous Rumours.
