With the recently released box set “Reformation 1″ barely landed, VNV Nation is back with their seventh studio album “Of Faith, Power And Glory”. With this album they sets a new landmark where they continues to evolve their own sound. Though “Of Faith, Power And Glory” is just barely over 44 minutes in playtime with its ten songs, VNV Nation has never been known for doing ‘big’ albums where they take advantage of all the minutes on a cd. Instead they ensure to make every track a great one.
“Of Faith, Power And Glory” continues on a new path after the release of “Judgement”, released in 2007. However, with “Matter And Form” from 2005 and the recently mentioned “Judgement” it took me some time to really get into those albums soundwise, since both of them was really different from what had been released earlier and with “Futureperfect” as one of my favorite albums in mind, but with the new album I get presented in a different way. “Of Faith, Power And Glory” somehow combines all previous work and this turns out to be a very strong album. It grows with every playthrough. When “Reformation 1″ was released and I heard the unreleased tracks I was speechless. In my opinion those tracks was among the best songs released by VNV Nation, and I knew the sound on “Of Faith, Power And Glory” would be great. The songs ‘Sentinel’, ‘Tomorrow Never Comes’ and ‘In Defiant’ are new favorites with its more uptempo and club-friendly sound – that will work like the hand in a glove during live performances – together with the more beautiful songs ‘The Great Divide’ and ‘Verum Aeternus’. The track ‘From My Hands’ is a beautiful and emotional hymn with only a piano and some soundscapes in the background, before the last track ‘Where There Is Light’ ends this album in a great way.
With “Of Faith, Power And Glory”, VNV Nation really shows how big they really are. This album will fit both new and old fans.
