X-Divide “X” (EP Infacted)

Review:

X-Divide - X

9/10

Artist: X-Divide
Title: X
Format: EP
Label: Infacted Recordings
Genre: Electronic, Electropop
Release date: February 12, 2010

Founded in 2005, the two members of X-Divide, Jens and Eric signed with german label Infacted Recordings in 2008. “X” is their debut release and it features 7 tracks including a very special remix from Namnambulu – Hey, I thought they didn’t existed anymore – along with four songs and two remixes from Endanger and Shiv-R. The two guys is also working on the first full-lenght album, yet untitled, set to be released later this year.

“X” starts with the track “Forever”, which the band also shot a music video for and can be found on selected videosites like Youtube, Myspace and Vimeo etc. The track starts out calm and runs you over with its very harmonic feeling to just turn over to a strong electropop tune with a catchy melody, great vocals by singer Eric and the clubbiness would surely make it work on the dancefloor.

With the next track “My Love…”, a heavier beat structure is presented with great sequences of infectious soundscapes and a more utterly melancholic approach, that somehow was the very unique trademark of Namnambulu and with this track I would easily say this is the official replacement of the now closed group. It continues with “Sometimes” and shows off a slower side from X-Divide with reduced beat count and greater atmospheres to turn out to be a very emotive track. Their influences derives from modern futurepop and electro acts and the fact that Vasi Vallis himself has produced the EP is hard to come by. The fourth track “Mirror” is the only one that doesn’t include vocals. A distinct beat structure and eminent synthesizers is the reciepe on this one and its structure is kept through the entire song where the result turns out be a very calm and harmonic peice.

The recognizable NNB sound is transferred into a very timeless remix of “Sympathy” and is described as very melodic and easy to dance to. The EP is wounding up with two remixes of the lead track “Forever” from labelmates Endanger and Shiv-R. The Endanger mix has a very characteristic touch of electropop, while the Shiv-R remix takes a much more clubbier approach with heavier beats and darker soundscapes.

With emotional lyrics about love merged into amazing electropop music with catchy melodies hard not to sing along to, X-Divide delivers a strong debut release.
