The duo Renee Cooper and Sebastian Komor strikes back on Halloween with their horror-project Zombie Girl and the EP “Halloween EP”, featuring 9 tracks including a reinterpretation of John Carpenter’s Halloween classic and two more new songs plus a couple of new remixes on earlier released tracks.
“Halloween EP” starts with the track “Halloween”, most known to be one of John Carpenters legendary tunes, and this is a real killer. An industrial piece of zombiefied electronics that even would make Rob Zombie terrified. It’s full of energy and would definately fill the dancefloors in no time. The second track “The Ones Who Talk At Night” is a kind of intro-like song where you’ll hear both Sebastian and Renee talk about Zombies and offer lines like “When I taste your heart and your mind is clean, for you every night will be Halloween”. Though, I think the track is too long for being a talk type of song. It works very well like an intro or in between the tracks but should be kept to a maximum of a minute to not feel to boring. Another new piece is “Down Below”. It is a slow instrumental track that would easily fit in a horror movie with its scary sounds and really wicked atmosphere.
The remixes feel pretty decent, however they would definately fit the dancefloor with their heavy-pounding beats and crazy electronics of modern tunes. The intro to the demo version of the song “The Darkness” sounded pretty much like the opening to the Depeche Mode classic “Personal Jesus”.
All in all, the EP is kinda good and covers pretty much what Zombie Girl has to offer and it works very well as an introduction if you are new to the band with a lot of interesting sounds and variety on the remixes.
